Though not due to be officially announced until the 11th October, specifications for Samsung and Google’s next awesome smartphone have leaked out onto the internet.
BGR has reported a full specifications sheet for the flagship handset, firmly stating that their source is very trusted.
On the eve of Apple’s iPhone 4S announcement, Google uploaded a teaser video of their forthcoming Nexus phone, along with the tagline “something BIG is coming”. This has led most to believe that the phone will have a huge 4.7-inch screen, or even that it will dock with a tablet.
- Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
- 9mm thin
- 4.65-inch 1280 x 720-pixel Super AMOLED HD with curved glass
- TI OMAP 4460 dual-core Cortex A9 processor clocked at 1.2GHz
- 1GB of RAM
- 32GB of built-in storage
- 5-megapixel camera on the back, 1.3-megapixel in the front
- 1080p HD video capture support
- LTE/HSPA depending on carrier
- Wi-Fi a/b/g/n
- NFC
- 1,750 mAh battery
Not too many surprises here, we could tell easily from the demo video that this smartphone would feature the same curved screen as the Samsung Nexus S. However, the screen is much bigger at 4.65-inches, which fits the tagline of “something BIG is coming”.
We’re a little underwhelmed with the camera spec, if anything. With this being the next flagship, top-of-the-range Google-branded Android smartphone, we’d expect it to have the now industry standard 8-Megapixel sensor.
BGR also reports that the phone will not be called the Google/Samsung Nexus Prime as we had previously thought – instead it will be the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. This will make the product appear to be more like a Samsung device than one of Google’s own.
As expected, the Galaxy Nexus will represent the next version of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0, in its purest form. There won’t be any additional software or overlaid user interface such as Samsung’s TouchWiz UI either.
Google and Samsung will be announcing their iPhone 4S rival at the CTIA event next Tuesday, so tune in here for the latest.
