HTC’s big media event at the Roundhouse in Camden, London has just kicked off. First on the agenda for the Taiwanese manufacturer was the announcement of their next big smartphone – the HTC Sensation XL.
We’ve seen the Sensation XL many times before, and you may remember us reporting on it under the moniker of the HTC Runnymede. It’s a huge gloss white smartphone with a 4.7-inch touchscreen, along with Beats Audio technology.
The Sensation XL comes with the red Beats Audio logo on the back of the case, a set of premium ‘urBeats’ over ear headphones.
It has 16GB of onboard storage and an 8-Megapixel camera with a fast-shooting aperture of f/2.2 and dual LED flash. Video recording is unfortunately only 720p quality, not the Full HD 1080p we would have expected. There’s also a 1.3-Megapixel front facing camera for good quality video calls.
The processor is only a single core, compared to the Dual-Core processors used in the original HTC Sensation and the more recent HTC Sensation XE. It’s a Qualcomm chip and is clocked at 1.5GHz, so it’s no slouch by any means. HTC have included 768MB of RAM to back up the processor speed.
Back to the reason why this phone has the ‘XL’ tag – the huge 4.7-inch screen. It’s covered with a sheet of ultra tough Gorilla Glass, so it won’t scratch or crack easily. Screen quality is good thanks to a resolution of 480 x 800.
The phone runs Android Gingerbread software along with HTC’s latest user interface, Sense 3.5. This brings features like the weather lockscreen and HTC Watch for downloading and renting movies.
Thanks to HTC’s Beats Audio acquisition, the phone comes with an awesome looking set of Beats ‘urBeats’ headphones, and there’s Beats software on the phone which will optimise sound quality from the moment you plug the headphones in.
The HTC Sensation XL will go on sale at the beginning of November, with Three, O2 and Vodafone already confirming they will be stocking the beast smartphone. Check out Three’s video below for a glimpse of the phone.
