Talk about a complete turnaround! We’ve only just posted a leaked video of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, but now our excitement for the gadget has been taken away by a joint statement from Samsung and Google, who have agreed to postpone the announcement.
It was a dead cert that the two tech giants would be teaming up to announce the new smartphone and the latest version of Android that it would run, Ice Cream Sandwich, at the CTIA Fall event next Tuesday.
However, the two companies have literally just sent out a statement to tech blogs and journalists everywhere, stating that “Samsung and Google decide to postpone the new product announcement at CTIA Fall.” The statement goes on to explain as to why: “We agree that it is just not the right time to announce a new product. New date and venue will be shortly announced.”
For the last month or so, everyone has been eagerly anticipating both the new version of Android and the very first smartphone to run it, the Samsung Nexus Prime, or as it is now known, the Galaxy Nexus.
Announcing the new phone just after Apple announced the iPhone 4S would be a great move for both companies, and we were sure a frenzy of excitement for Android would have been stirred up, so what has made them change their minds?
The first thought that came to our minds was about the passing of Steve Jobs. Would now really be a good time to release a rival product to Apple’s iPhone 4S and try to whip up an anti-Apple media storm? It could be seen as a little insensitive, perhaps.
Either way, Google and Samsung say that a new date and venue for the announcement will be given very soon. We’ll bring you the latest as we get it, in the meantime why don’t you check out the recently leaked video of the Galaxy Nexus.
