Google Nexus Prime event confirmed for 19th October

Samsung Nexus

Yesterday we started to hear yet more rumours about the much anticipated announcement of the upcoming Google Nexus Prime smartphone.

We told you the other day that the news around rumour land was that Samsung/Google were going to announce the new device along with the Ice Cream Sandwich update on the 3rd of November. However, yet again we started to hear another date circulating around the tech blogs, and that date was the 19th of October.

But, after already telling you one speculated announcement date, we thought it was best to wait for some sort of official communication from either Samsung or Google, and then let you know the actual date of when the announcement will be made.

No sooner had we thought that, Samsung came along and indeed confirmed the date of the 19th as the day we will be treated to new the Nexus handset by sending out invites for the event.

As I’m sure you’re aware, there has been an abundance of leaks over the last week or two about the upcoming smartphone – including the expected specification; which includes a TI OMAP 4460 dual core Cortex A9 1.2GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage. The Nexus Prime is also expected to have an advanced 5MP camera capable of recording full 1080p HD, along with a 1.3MP camera on the front for video calling. Apparently the device will also support LTE and also have NFC integrated as well (like the Nexus S).

If you haven’t seen it yet, make sure you check out our recent blog that includes the leaked video of the Nexus Prime, along with some of the new features of ICS.
