Since its release, short battery life problems have plagued iPhone 4S users across the globe. The same issue has also affected iPhone 4 and iPhone 3G users who have upgraded to iOS 5.
We’ve found the source of the problem – a bug in the location settings – and a fix for the issue already, however, Apple are working on a permanent fix for this issue in the way of a software update.
Apple has just released a beta version of some new software for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad to developers, iOS 5.0.1. This software is said to include a permanent fix for the battery life woes as well as multitouch gesture support for the original iPad; something that until now has only worked on the iPad 2.
Apple’s software release also states that iOS 5.0.1 will resolve “bugs with Documents in the Cloud”. This is another known issue with iOS 5 that we have reported on before.
The usual security improvements have also been made in the software update, and interestingly Apple have improved Siri’s voice recognition for Australian users when using the dictation feature to write text messages and emails.
Developers are currently testing the new software on all Apple mobile devices to ensure the problems are fixed and everything runs smoothly. If all goes to plan, users should see the update available via iTunes or over the air (using WiFi) on their devices in the coming weeks.
