You wait for one new Motorola tablet to turn up and then two come at once! Introducing the Motorola Xoom 2 – in both a standard version and beefed up Media Edition.
Following in size from the original Xoom, mark 2.0 comes in at 10.1-inches, again with Android 3.2 Honeycomb on board as OS of choice. Its stylish tapered edged casing measures up at 253.9 x 173.6 x 8.8 mm and weighs in at 599g. This time, however, the tablet comes with a smaller 8.2” variant called the Media Edition which measures a diminutive 139 x 216 x 8.99mm and weighs only 386g. Both standard and junior versions pack 1.2GHz dual-core CPU, 16GB of RAM, 5-megapixel rear-shooter with digital zoom, auto-focus and LED flash as well as a 1.3-megapixel camera up front and both rock an ultra-tough gorilla glass frontage and splash-guard to protect against the rough and tumble of day-to-day usage or heavy travel. Battery offers the larger model up to ten hours of serious usage and six hours on the smaller media model with a month’s standby time. The Media Edition benefits from an enhanced screen for crystal clear video.
Expect a mid-November release in the UK and Europe with Carphone Warehouse and PC World as front runners when the sales begin. Pricing is to be confirmed, but as always the Gadget Helpline will be on it when the news breaks!
