Dead Island Dev Planning ‘Dead World’ Sequel
The recent zombies-in-your face title Dead Island kept your player and their zombie foes to just one island location, but what if the outbreak spread? That’s exactly what Dead Island developer Techland is thinking, with recent developments including movie rights from Lionsgate and the developer filing a trademark for an additional game in the series.
The patent includes details on a potential sequel for the franchise, titled ‘Dead World’. The October 28th patent filing is pretty flexible however, as it relates to a wide range of digital media, as well as video game and entertainment properties. Techland have not yet confirmed any kind of sequel to the game, however.
Dead Island itself stayed in development for about five years, abut the game isn’t over yet, with Techland detailing an expansion, Blood Arena, and the developer additionally reallocating development resources to “further polishing” of the standard game.

GTA V Locations Detailed
A trailer for the next GTA title, GTA V, came out the other day, and additional information has it that the game will primarily be set in the most gangsta city of Los Santos, last seen in GTA: San Andreas.
Currently the game is described by take-Two as being “in full development,” whilst the Rockstar confirmed that the game would take place in the city of Los Santos and surrounding hills, countryside and beaches. The developer said that the largest and most ambitious game Rockstar has yet created.
Rockstar founder Sam Houser said “Grand Theft Auto V is another radical reinvention of the Grand Theft Auto universe. We are incredibly excited to share our new vision with our fans.”
The game was described in a recent press release as “A bold new direction in open-world freedom”, storytelling, mission-based gameplay and online multiplayer, Grand Theft Auto V focuses on the pursuit of the almighty dollar in a re-imagined, present-day Southern California. Rockstar Games pioneered the open world genre with the Grand Theft Auto series, one of the most successful entertainment properties of all time.
With more than 114 million copies sold-in worldwide, Grand Theft Auto games have helped propel video games into the cultural mainstream. Grand Theft Auto V is the follow up to 2008’s record-breaking, critically-acclaimed Grand Theft Auto IV. Rockstar Games continued its tradition of award-winning open world games with the 2010 blockbuster Western, Red Dead Redemption, and the groundbreaking detective thriller L.A. Noire in 2011.
Gearbox Claims Duke Nukem Forever Wasn’t Reviewed Fairly
From the point of view of Gearbox co-founder Brian Martel, Duke Nukem Forever was poorly and unfairly reviewed, and fans reactions to reviews gave them a bad impression of the latest in a veteran franchise.
After a ridiculously long development, canceled, resurrected etc, Gearbox’s Duke Nukem Forever was released to a diverse mixture of reviews. Martel reacted to negative reviews defensively, claiming “It’s pretty obvious that people were using it in some ways to kind of use it as a soapbox or whatever” and that most reviews did not take into account “what [the game] was meant to be, which is a more old-school style game in what is today’s technology.”
Martel compared the game to the original Half-Life, asking players “Would Half-Life today be reviewed as highly as it is, you know, even today? As a new IP coming out with the same sort of mechanics Half-Life had.”
The next Duke game will apparently be very different.
“When and if another Duke comes out it’s going to be more consistent with what I think people would expect out of a Gearbox product. But this is the vision that 3D Realms had and that’s awesome. It’s just great that the world gets to see it…. I can guarantee it won’t take 15 years to see another.”
