Samsung redesigns Galaxy Tab 10.1 to overcome sales ban in Germany

  • by

After being lumped with a sales ban for its Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Germany, Samsung went back to the drawing board and have come up with a slightly new product; the Galaxy Tab 10.1n. It’s all in the n.

Apple filed a lawsuit against Samsung earlier this year, claiming similarities between the Android-based Galaxy Tab 10.1 and their own iPad 2. The claim resulted in Samsung’s tab being halted from sale in several European countries, and a more permanent sales ban in Germany alone.

However, Samsung weren’t going to take the ban lying down, and have tweaked the design of the tab in the hopes of overcoming the lawsuit and getting their tablet onto shelves and under Christmas trees this festive season.

As you can see from the image above, the newer 10.1n (top) features a redesigned silver band which runs around the edge of the device and now overlaps onto the front edge of the device. Taking a birds-eye view of the original 10.1 tab, all you could see was a flat gloss black panel, just like the iPad 2.

At the moment we don’t know if Samsung has made any hardware changes to the tablet to compliment the redesign, but it seems fairly unlikely.

However, Samsung may have made some tweaks to the software. Apple has also filed patent lawsuits against the company for the swipe gesture in its Photo Gallery apps on their Galaxy smartphones; something which the tab also features.

We have fingers crossed for Samsung with this one, as they haven’t had much luck with their Galaxy Tablets after Apple decided to get involved. The Galaxy Tab 7.7 is no longer on sale in Germany and the same 10.1-inch model never made it to stores in Australia for the same reasons.

What do you think of the newer design, better or worse?
