If you’re desperate to get your hands on the new Ice Cream Sandwich update for Android for your Nexus S, and you don’t want to wait for the official release update from Google. You’ll be pleased to know that the folk over at XDA developers have already managed to successfully create a custom ROM of the ICS update for your Nexus S smartphone.
The ROM has been created by XDA developer member ‘Kwibo’ and although it’s only meant for the Nexus S, I can’t image it will be too long before other developers will start to release variants that will run successfully on other Android devices.
The release at the moment is not perfect, but that’s a price you usually have to pay when you want to get your hands on early firmware. According to the developer, at the moment there are two things that are not working properly – the first being USB mass storage support, and the second is the lack of data usage statistics (which may not bother too many people anyway).
But fret not, a fix for these two issues is being worked on as you read this. So should you decide to take the jump and install this custom ROM on your Nexus S, you hopefully won’t have to wait too long before you can experience a practically perfect version of Ice Cream Sandwich a fair while before its official release to the Nexus S.
Head on over to the XDA developers site now there you can read the instructions and download the ROM.
