It’s been a difficult couple of weeks for Apple and its new version of iOS and the iPhone 4S; from the get-go users have been complaining about several issues from their battery life to syncing and iCloud – but now there also appears to be a problem with AirPlay.
According to Bowers & Wilkins, who make fancy wireless speaker docks, a bug has been identified in the OS that is preventing users pairing up their phones with B&W’s wireless speaker systems.
Bowers & Wilkins have confirmed that iPhone 4S users have been having issues, but they also believe that it’s a problem affecting all iPod dock manufacturers using Airplay connectivity.
Apparently the issue won’t be resolved until Apple releases another update, but that could take longer than many think. It had been promised that 5.0.2 would be out “no later” than this week, but according to German site Macerkopf.de, there has been a delay due to a memory leak pushing the release back to early next week.
B&W have confirmed that Apple has indeed been notified about this new problem and hopes it will be resolved with the update next week. We’ve done a bit of digging and the forums are full of angry users who are suffering from the AirPlay issue, which appears to be affecting iOS 5 users as a whole rather than just the iPhone 4S users.
Apple released iOS 5.0.1 last week, which was meant to fix all of these problems, but in actual fact it had quite the opposite effect, with users complaining their battery life was actually worse after updating.
The update was meant to fix a host of problems including battery drainage, sync problems with documents from the iCloud, and to improve Siri’s ability to understand the Australian accent.
