The Gadget Helpline is here to help you with the annual nightmare that comes when trying to find that ideal present for someone special this Christmas! We’ve taken a sneak peak into Santa’s workshop to deliver you with our top tips for great gadget gifts and terrific tech toys in time to bring a smile to someone’s face on the big day!
Remember the traditional Magic 8-Ball? Designed in the 50’s by Abe Bookman and Albert C. Carter, inspired by a friend who just so happened to be a psychic medium and basing the design on an American pool ball, the toy gave generations of youngsters a mystical glimpse into the immediate future or simply a tool to stop arguments!
But the same old boring “Yes”/”No”/”Don’t Count On It” type answers got a little tired over the years. So now ThinkGeek are stocking an ingenious reboot heading towards this Christmas, that brings the classic spherical toy up-to-date and in a language that our generation of tech-heads can understand. It’s a Magic 8-Ball that speaks Geek!
Preventing your potential Yule brawls, the Magic Geek Ball works in the same way as the old fave – Ask a question, give the ball a shake and your fortune will appear from the murky fluid held within on the surface of a triangular block. The traditional responses were pretty bland, but the Magic Geek Ball gives all of its replies in a more eloquent fashion that the tech-minded and Facebook and Twitter addicts can grasp, with answers such as “LOL”, “Fail” and the dreaded “Error 404”. There are a possible 20 replies hidden within and if the Magic Geek Ball is not-willing to offer an answer to your lives’ deepest queries it’ll give the non-committal, un-interested “Meh”.
Since this isn’t your everyday, average Magic 8-Ball, the geek talking variation even features a large green power-on symbol. But don’t fret. This gadget doesn’t require a power source. We know – it must truly be magical!
Magic Geek Ball is now available from ThinkGeek costing only $7.99 (About a fiver in British Pounds). Stick one in your stocking, ya nerd!
