A Windows Phone flagship from Samsung is on its way. The Samsung Focus S for AT&T Wireless closely resembles the original Galaxy S II – the two top dogs share an external design and quite a few internal parts.
The Samsung Focus S packs a Snapdragon chipset with a single-core Scorpion CPU clocked at 1.4GHz – this is as powerful as it gets on a Windows Phone packing device these days, given the strict hardware restrictions which Microsoft has for its mobile OS. The smartphone has 512MB of RAM and 16GB of built-in memory. A memory card slot is not present, again due to the hardware restrictions.
The rest of the Focus S internal bits come straight from the I9100′s parts bin. The screen is the same familiar 4.3″ Super AMOLED Plus with WVGA resolution. There’s an 8-Megapixel autofocus camera with an LED flash that can be found on the back which is capable of HD 720p video capture.
One bit that will make its Android sibling jealous; the Samsung Focus S does have a dedicated button for its snapper, this is to improve the experience when taking pictures. On the front of the device, you will find a 1.3MP unit to help you with the video calls. A 1650 mAh battery keeps the Focus S running.
The Samsung Focus S measures at 126 x 66.8 x 8.5 mm and tips the scale at the highly pocketable 110.6 grams, which is a fair bit lighter than Apple’s iPhone 4S.
There are no surprises in the software department of the Focus S, and the smartphone runs Windows Phone 7.5 Mango.
All in all the Focus S looks like it is going to be able to run with the best of them but for how long that is the question? Wp7.5 does not offer a lot of freedom when it comes to the basic use of the device, so this could well stop the progress of the handset.
