Sky has announced that its Sky Go App for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch has grown to include streaming films on demand for Sky Movies subscribers.
This is a key step for Sky’s service, for those people who like to use Sky Go on their iPad, iPod Touch and iPhone will now have the ability to stream movies when they are connected to Wi-Fi, with expected 3G functionality to come by the end of the year (Mobile Data plans will need to be pretty hefty to deal with the amount of streaming used by this app).
On-demand movies is a key upgrade to Sky’s mobile service, a service that until now only offered live film channels on tablets and phones. However if you were using Sky Go on a PC or Laptop, streaming movies was already a part of the service.
Although you can now stream on-demand movies, you will not however, be able to download them just yet – although the company has indicated that this is something that they are looking at for the future.
Sky Go is available with no extra cost to those who subscribe to the movies package. The first wave of headlining films will include Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, Little Fockers, Black Swan, Gulliver’s Travels and Limitless. Not a shabby list of films to kick off the service with.
“Sky Movies on demand is a great addition to Sky Go and gives customers complete control over how, when and now where they enjoy the latest movies,” said Ian Lewis, Director of Sky Movies.
“Whether customers want to kick back at home and watch the latest movies in widescreen 3D or HD, catch a movie on the laptop while on holiday or at the office, or watch a blockbuster out and about on their phone or tablet, we’ve got it covered.
“Alongside other recent additions to Sky Movies like Anytime+ and 3D, the launch of Sky Movies on Sky Go helps customers get even more value out of Sky.”
And, for those of you who are waiting for Sky Go on Android devices (myself included), Sky has confirmed again that “Sky Go app is to launch on Android handsets in the coming months.” The coming months have taken a long time so far – surely it cannot be that hard to transfer this service to Android!
