LG has only just confirmed that the Android Gingerbread (2.3) update would be coming to the Optimus 3D smartphone, but today it has announced that the device will be getting a taste of Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0), along with other LG smartphones.
The company posted via its official Facebook page to confirm which phones would be eligible for the tasty software update, which brings a host of new features including easy homescreen folders and improved camera functionality.
The devices due to get the update are as follows:
- LG Optimus 3D
- LG Optimus 2X
- LG Optimus Black
- LG Optimus LTE
Asides from the Optimus LTE, that’s three of LG’s UK and European smartphones that will be upgradable to Android 4.0 – a pretty sweet deal if you ask us.
LG has already done the math to work out that these four devices will all be able to run ICS smoothly, but it also confirmed that it will be exploring the possibilities with some of its older Optimus smartphones, such as the Optimus One.
LG will be announcing an upgrade roadmap in December, which will give Optimus smartphone owners a chance to see exactly when their gadget will be eligible for an upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich.
LG joins HTC and Samsung in announcing which of their current crop of Android smartphones will be updated to the latest and greatest version of Android. HTC’s Sensation range will be updated early in 2012, while Samsung confirmed that its Galaxy Tab 10.1, Galaxy S II and more will get the update.
