Google’s mobile OS Android has had some pretty fancy voice based features including calling, texting and navigating. And for a while now one of those features has been voice typing, this as far back as May 2010 in fact, with version 2.2 Froyo.
But with Apple’s iPhone 4S and its little pocket Jeeves known as Siri leading the way, Google are outspoken in its own voice development for newest treat Ice Cream Sandwich – version 4.0 of Android – with voice typing that keeps up with the leading rival and delivers real time dictation.
Live recording through your Samsung Galaxy Nexus, or respective ICS gadget’s microphone and relay through the Google OS will mean that you can speak your mind as the Android software types along with you – No more “Say a line, wait. Say a line, wait”.
The news broke via post on the Android Developer’s blog by Lucas Zanolin (full given title – “an Android engineer who works on voice typing”) and fellow devs can now grab the crucial code and instructions for their input editing and enjoy reasonably smooth word-by-word dictation on the new Ice Cream Sandwich. Check it out – Here. But be sure to get your pronunciation right as the Google software is still pretty sensitive and until it becomes a full release and gets to know us, it doesn’t know where and when to auto-correct!
