Samsung Ships Record-Breaking 300 Million Mobile Phones in 2011

Android titans Samsung have reported their best ever year in handset sales – they’ve shipped 300 million since the beginning of the year. That’s already 20 million more than their total sales last year, and only includes sales up until the end of November.

That means Samsung still have the busy Christmas period to add to their tally, as well as the first full month in which the Galaxy Nexus will be sold. The good figures so far are down to the Galaxy S and Galaxy S2 devices, according to Samsung. The Galaxy S2 was reported to have sold 10 million units earlier in the year, and continues to be one of the most popular Android phones.

We look forward to extending this success going into 2012“, said President and Head of Mobile Communications JK Shin. With the Galaxy Note and Galaxy Nexus joining the S2 atop the Android ranks, Samsung are likely to continue their record year. They’ve also got the Samsung Galaxy S3 to look forward to, which will reportedly ship in the middle of next year and contain upgrades to the camera, display and CPU.

Samsung now look to be fully cemented in their position as the top Android manufacturer, and will certainly be looking to extend their success to the Galaxy S3 and their ever-expanding stable of Android handsets.

Their latest flagship smartphone, the Galaxy Nexus, has recently gone on sale in the US today and has been successful in the UK and Europe for the past month. Featuring the latest version of Android – 4.0 aka Ice Cream Sandwich – and top tech such as a 1.2GHz Dual Core processor and an NFC chip, it’s sure to be a big success.
