Google has cut short the anticipated Nexus S roll out of the latest spoonful of Android, version 4.0 – Ice Cream Sandwich, after it was reported by a number of the Samsung gadget users that the update affected the smartphone’s battery. The update went live on December 19th.
Google’s help forum has suggested that Nexus S owners may find they cannot update to Android 4.0 when notified that the update is available and the reason for this is “the result of Google pausing the update in your area while we monitor feedback.” – That feedback being numerous complaints over the sudden battery drainage experienced since early adopters grabbed a bite of brand new Ice Cream Sandwich, which debuted on October 19th along with Samsung and Google’s Nexus S successor – the Galaxy Nexus.
Despite monitoring feedback, as they put it, commenters suggest that the heavy strain on the Nexus S handset’s 1GHz processor whilst hosting Ice Cream Sandwich may be the cause. Google is yet to acknowledge a fault between Android update and device battery, but an official statement is eagerly awaited.
