Porsche Designed BlackBerry P’9981 Goes On Sale In UK For £1275, Exclusively At Harrods

If you’re a BlackBerry fanatic then you’d better start begging your bank for a loan, as the latest ‘Berry smartphone is about to go on sale in the UK for a whopping £1275.

The BlackBerry P’9981 isn’t an ordinary BlackBerry – it’s been designed by none other than Porsche Design, the same team who create various exclusive luxury items as well as the legendary sports cars. If you’re lucky enough to have the cash to flash for one of these beauties, you’re going to have to get yourself down to Harrods in London, as it’s the only place stocking them.

If you’re not familiar with RIM’s latest luxury phone, let us fill you in. The Porsche Designed P’9981 first became official two months ago, and is effectively a BlackBerry Bold 9900 in disguise. It features the same 1.2GHz dual core processor, a full QWERTY keyboard and 2.8-inch touchscreen, 5-Megapixel camera with LED flash, plus 8GB of internal storage and the latest BlackBerry OS 7 software.

The internal specs are where the similarities end, however. Porsche Design has crafted the front fascia of the phone out of brushed aluminium, with each key on the QWERTY keyboard now split into two smaller keys, thus eliminating the need for the ALT key. The back of the phone is finished in subtle black leather too, which adds to the elegant, classy feel. Emblazoned above the screen in the classic Porsche font is the brand Porsche Design.

Unlike other ‘premium’ and designer smartphones, the P’9981 doesn’t feature any precious metals, jewels or diamonds unfortunately, which does seem a shame given the whopping price tag. We’d have liked some sparkly bits somewhere, perhaps some crystals within that Porsche Design logo – maybe we’re just being fussy.

Will you be splashing out the £1275 asking price to nab yourself one of the most exclusive smartphones around?
