Activision has finally announced the drop-date for the first Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 DLC pack for the Playstation 3.
The first update has already landed on the Xbox 360, launching last month ahead of the PS3 drop thanks to an exclusive deal between Microsoft and Activision. The fact that Xbox users were getting the pack, which contains 2 new maps, before them caused uproar in the PS3 gaming community, but now the due date has finally been set.
Mark it in your calendars, PS3 gamers, for Tuesday 28th February is the day. You’ll need to be subscribed to the new Call of Duty Elite service in order to get first dibs on the 28th; those not subscribed should get the new maps shortly after.
The DLC (Downloadable Content) package brings two brand spanking new multiplayer maps: Liberation and Piazza. Liberation is closely based on the Central Park area of New York, which has been taken over by the military and turned into a frag-fest. On the other hand, Piazza is a dainty Italian seaside town map, which sort of reminds me of the DE_INFERNO map from Counter Strike: Source.
Liberation and Piazza mark the start of a 9 month schedule of downloadable content planned by Activision for both Xbox 360 and PS3 gamers. We’ve detailed the schedule before, so check that out to see what’s in store.
From playing the two maps already on the Xbox 360 version of the game, we have to say that Liberation is by far our favourite of the two maps. That’s not to take anything away from Piazza – it’s a beautiful looking map which offers some great gameplay – Liberation is just more compact and fun to play.
