Samsung has been issuing invites to a post-MWC event, and since we know we won’t be seeing a Samsung Galaxy SII successor at the Barcelona event, we’re beginning to wonder what the event might be for
French Android site, Frandroid, has been boastfully showing off its invite to the prestigious event, which is could signal the reveal of the Samsung Galaxy S III, which could possibly come with an impressive 1.5GHz quad-core CPU and 2GB of on-board RAM with 64GB of storage, 12-megapixel shooter and come packing newest Android platform, 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich – all depending on whose rumours you’ve been listening to, of course.
The invite shared by the Google-lovin’ website is pretty vague with no details of place or time, but the French language and the fact that Frandroid is the only site yet to receive/post its invite to the event may be an indication.
Samsung last week addressed the rumours of a Mobile World Congress appearance for the SGSIII with a resounding “No”, and instead would still be “introducing and demonstrating exciting new mobile products” – one of which could be a rumoured upgrade to the original Galaxy SII, to be called the Galaxy SII Plus said to feature 1.5GHz dual-core CPU – matching up with the potential processing power of the sequel – with a WVGA display to rival the Galaxy Note on sharpness but with dimensions closely resembling the original SGSII. The mobile should feature current edition Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread.
With a product as highly anticipated as the Galaxy S III, we would imagine that Samsung would reveal it on a global scale, rather than just in France. Perhaps the invite is for a French-exclusive variant of the Galaxy S II plus, or even a partnership between Samsung and a French network.
That makes for two exciting dates to remember on the Samsung calendar: MWC on February 27th to March 1st and now this mystery event on March 22nd.
