HTC Velocity Speeding into Germany on Super Fast 4G Network Soon

Germany will get its first 4G connected smartphone in the form of the Taiwanese made HTC Velocity which is set to speed onto the country’s mobile market later this year.

As well as bringing a super-fast internet data connection through the currently in trial 4G communications standard the HTC Velocity will mirror the US-based AT&T LTE model known as the “Vivid”. This means the model we see surface in Germany will be coming along with an impressive 1.5GHz dual-core CPU, with 1GB of onboard RAM, 16GB internal storage and a 4.5” gHD touchscreen display. A respectable 8-megapixel camera is complimented by a 28mm lens and dual-LED flash accompanied by front-facing 1/3-megapixel shooter for video calling.

American cousin  the HTC Vivid is due a tasty OS update from Android 2.3 Gingerbread to newest version 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, so presumably this will be included when the Velocity races in at a yet unspecified date this year. It’s been mentioned that this new model will not be widely distributed at release, as Germany’s 4G network currently “only” covers 8.5-million of the country’s population and its unknown whether the mobile will be backward compatible with the existing high speed 3G networks such as Vodafone HSPA.
