We’ve learnt in recent months that Nokia’s A-game is Windows Phone – the company has even said recently that they “don’t have a plan B”. But what of its own smartphone software, Symbian, that it has released hundreds of phones on over the past 5 years?
Despite Nokia switching its attentions to Microsoft’s Windows Phone platform, it continues to support the Symbian operating system, and has just released a major update to a new version entitled “Belle”. We’re hearing rumours that the Finnish manufacturer will be releasing just one more new phone on the Symbian platform, and that phone will be the Nokia 803.
The 803 is said to be a direct successor to the N8 – which shone thanks to its impressive 8-Megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens. Tech news website BGR has heard from a “trusted source” of theirs that Nokia plans to continue with the camera-focus with the 803. This phone will apparently pack “one of the largest camera sensors – if not the largest camera sensor – ever seen on a mobile phone”. This alone is certainly making our gadget senses tingle.
BGR’s source also confirmed that the 803 would be running the latest version of Symbian software, now known as Nokia Belle. This new version of the OS is more Android-like, offering several customisable home screens, live widgets and more.
We’re also told that the screen choice is a 4-inch AMOLED panel, which will be bright and vibrant – perfect for viewing back pictures from this supposedly incredible camera. There’s also a Micro HDMI out port for connecting to your HDTV and playing back video and photo content from the phone, Micro SIM support and NFC wireless connectivity.
That’s all the specifications that BGR’s source was able to leak to them, but hopefully we’ll uncover more in the not-too-distant future.
