So, after denying any press conferences at the Mobile World Congress in two weeks and shooting down claims of any major announcements in the next couple of months Samsung has slipped out a new tablet. The Galaxy Tab 2 was begat this morning in a low key European Forum event in Prague – and with it came Google’s latest Android offering, version 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
The 7-incher was seen out and about in the Czech Republic today at an event usually reserved for giving the post-CES European orientation of gadgets which have been revealed at the January electronics show. But breaking from tradition – and with a fortnight to go till the most opportune platform for a new product launch Samsung has chosen to use this event to reveal the Galaxy Tab successor.
Reported spec from the European Forum states that the Galaxy Tab 2 will be available in three memory sizes of 8GB, 16GB and 32GB and is set to feature a 1GHz Dual-Core processor – the same performance as last season’s model, but the OLED screen used on the preceding versions will be dropped, replaced instead with a WSVGA PLS TFT display with a resolution of 1024×600 pixels.
Internal storage can be boosted with MicroSD support up to 32GB and for connectivity the Galaxy Tab 2 will include Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and 3G. For entertainment, all new Tabs will come with pre-installed access to Samsung’s Video Hub – a movie rental shop currently featuring over 1000 titles and of course this will all benefit from the addition of Android ICS, making this the first Samsung tablet to boast the new Google OS upgrade.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 is set to surface in the UK in March with price yet to be confirmed.
