ViewSonic has big plans to launch a highly portable 7-inch tablet running the very latest version of Android, and it’s going to be known as the ViewPad G70.
Tech news site Pocket-Lint apparently has a trusted informant who has leaked the details, confirming that the G70 will feature a 7-inch screen with a resolution of 1024 x 600 and an average pixel density of 169 pixels per inch.
Of course, the main draw is the latest version of Android, the very nippy, great looking and rather tastily named version 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich. ViewSonic will apparently be adding their own touch in the form of the ‘ViewScene’ interface that has appeared on its Android tablets before, but it’s still going to be an authorized device, so will have access to the Android Market, Google Maps etc.
With Android 4.0 you’ll get the stylish home screen folders for grouping your apps, panoramic photo shooting in the Camera app and a slicker menu system.
The G70 has also appeared on a few non-descript Chinese retailer websites with a fairly low price point of roughly $320, which translates to around £220; very reasonable indeed.
Processing power hasn’t been confirmed just yet, though we do know that this device will have 4GB of internal memory (expandable via Micro SD), 1GB of RAM, front and rear cameras and Mini HDMI and Micro USB sockets for connectivity.
Interestingly, said Chinese retailers also advertise the G70 as having 3G connectivity – something rare for a tablet this cheap and of this size.
We’re hoping to learn plenty more about ViewSonic’s interesting budget ICS tablet, and with a little luck our prayers will be answered next week at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
