After a disappointing 2011 that saw the release of few big winners for LG, they’re attempting to turn the corner in 2012 with some big reveals the week before the Mobile World Congress. They’ve announced three new phones this week in their new L series: The L3, the L5, and the L7.
As you’d expect, the L3 is a low-end device, L5 the mid-range and L7 the very top end. What you might not is that all include very similar styling to the rather expensive LG Prada 3.0 phone that was released a few weeks ago, with a metallic design and leather-ish rear panels. These design qualities were well received by most reviewers and belied a surprisingly able device inside, so hopefully we’ll see the same thing with the L series.
While the phones’ full specifications will be revealed at the Mobile World Congress next week, we do know the very basics. The L7 will have a 4.3″ screen, the L5 a 4″ screen and the L3 a 3.2″ screen. The L7 and L5 will both run Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box, but the L3 will be stuck with Gingerbread. That suggests dual core or better for the L5 and L7, with a single core for the L3.
LG also recently announced the Optimus 3D Cube and Optimus 3D Max, so it’s been a good week for them with some reasonably potent looking handsets. Expect to see a whole lot more from them (and everyone else) next week.
