Nokia has announced at MWC 2012 that its flagship Windows Phone, the Lumia 900, will be coming to the UK and other markets sometime this year.
The Lumia 900 was recently announced by Nokia as a 4G flagship smartphone for the U.S on the AT&T network. Obviously we don’t have a 4G network in the UK just yet, so we feared that Nokia wouldn’t be bringing its latest and greatest to old blighty. Thankfully, the company has just announced at its MWC Press Conference that the phone will be coming – without the 4G tech – to Europe and other markets.
Nokia’s flagship bears more than a striking resemblance to its little brother, the Lumia 800. They’re practically identical on the outside, although the 900 is a little larger as it has to accommodate a bigger 4.3-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen. The soft-touch polycarbonate body is the same, and comes in the same colour ways of Cyan, Magenta, Black and White. The only aesthetic differences are in the Micro SIM and Micro SD slots – the SIM slot has been moved slightly, and the Micro USB port isn’t hidden under a flip-up panel.
The same 8-Megapixel rear camera with autofocus, LED flash and Carl Zeiss optics is embedded in the rear of the phone. A front-facing camera of 1.3-Megapixels has been added, which should play nicely with the official Skype for Windows Phone app, which has just been released as a beta version.
The phone is powered by a 1.4GHz Qualcomm processor, and runs on Windows Phone 7.5 – aka Mango. You’ll get 8GB of internal storage which can be expanded upon using the Micro SD slot, and you can further satisfy your storage needs by taking to the cloud with Microsoft’s SkyDrive service.
No UK carriers have confirmed they will be stocking the Lumia 900 just yet, but we’ll keep you up to date with the latest revelations.
