We had a feeling that Samsung would be launching a larger version of its Galaxy Note ‘phablet’ at Mobile World Congress, thanks to a blunder on its official blog, and now we can confirm that the product does indeed exist.
Samsung has unveiled the new Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet at MWC – a tablet version of its phone-come-tablet Note smartphone, minus the phone features. It has a 10.1-inch touchscreen that responds to both touch and an included stylus, for drawing, handwriting and annotating.
It runs on Android 4.0 – aka Ice Cream Sandwich – with a powerful 1.4GHz Dual-Core processor and 1GB of RAM, along with a selection of Samsung’s unique apps that came bundled with the smaller Note phone. However, unlike the smaller Note, Samsung has opted not to go all guns blazing in the specifications department.
The rear camera is a lowly 3.15-Megapixel sensor, although there is a decent 2-Megapixel front-facing option for good quality video calling – just don’t expect to be taking stunning snaps with this tablet.
Three versions of the Galaxy Note 10.1 will go on sale – 16GB, 32GB and 64GB – each with both Wi-Fi and HSPA+ mobile internet connectivity for browsing and downloading on the go. You can expect a decent battery life too, thanks to a whopping 7000mAh battery cell that hides inside the 8.9mm thick body.
Samsung’s President of IT and Mobile Communications, JK Shin, announced the new tab at the event: “With GALAXY Note 10.1 we are demonstrating Samsung’s commitment to extend the mobile category and are working with key partners like Adobe to provide extraordinary experiences for users that enable them to be more productive, express themselves creatively and add a touch of fulfillment to their lives.”
Unfortunately the company hasn’t confirmed pricing or availability for the Note 10.1, though we’ll bring you the latest when we hear it.
