Parrot AR Drone 2.0 Quadricopter Flies Into the UK this June

Remember the awesome AR Drone 2.0 we showed you at CES? Well, one could be yours to own come June, as its manufacturer Parrot has confirmed pricing and release dates for the awesome quadricopter.

Despite a revamped design and a ton of new tech on board, the second generation AR Drone will retail at £280 – the same price you’ll pay for the original from UK retailers such as HMV.

The AR Drone 2.0 has many new features, but topping the list is a HD video camera, which enables you to record your flights from the drone’s point of view. These can then be viewed back on a smartphone, tablet or PC and even on a HDTV in high-def quality. The video quality is 720p (1280 x 720), and the Drone 2.0 is capable of streaming it live on your iPhone, iPad or Android device’s screen as you fly it.

As with the original, Parrot has created a series of awesome Augmented Reality games that make the Drone 2.0 even more fun. While controlling the copter from your smartphone or tablet, you’ll see the live feed from the camera, while a virtual warzone is shown around you. You’ll be able to duel with other AR Drones and battle it out in several augmented reality games.

Parrot has also crammed in a host of sensors to help you fly the beast, including a gyroscope, accelerometer and a 3D magnetometer. Thanks to these, you’ll be able to tilt your smartphone in different directions in order to control the flight of the drone.

The original AR Drone was, and still is, tons of fun. With new games, extra tech and the same price, we can’t wait to get into the pilot seat and take one of these for a test flight.
