GiffGaff Network Outage Across the Country Caused by Burst Water Pipe (Updating)

  • by

Those of you who are on the GiffGaff mobile network in the UK may currently be experiencing issues with signal, or a lack of service altogether. The network has acknowledged it is experiencing serious issues across the country.

The beans were spilled via GiffGaff’s user forums – a place where users of the network are invited to help each other out – when a ‘GiffGaff Educator’ advised that the outage has been caused by a power cut. The power cut is said to have been caused by a burst mains water pipe nearby.

We have discovered the cause of this outage is due to a power outage at one of our suppliers. We do not have an ETA on a resolution, but this will hopefully resolved soon. They will need to restore power, and then the engineers (who are already on their way there) will reboot all the required systems.”

GiffGaff likes to think of itself as a people’s network, and is keeping true to that by promising continual updates through its user forums. The network has experienced a few issues recently, although this incident seems to be rather unfortunate, with the cause being a mains water pipe.

Unfortunately it seems as though the service won’t be resumed any time soon, with the network recently posting this message on the forums:

We have identified the cause of the power outage. A water mains pipe burst at our suppliers causing a power outage. Unfortunately we still do not have an ETA for you.”

We’ll keep you updated with the latest on the issue. In the meantime, let us know if you’re still having issues, or if your GiffGaff mobile is working okay.

UPDATE:

GiffGaff has updated us to say that some services are working for many users, although there seems to be an issue with SMS at the moment.

Some incoming texts are working, some are not. If a text is shown on the senders end as sent but has not arrived on the recipients handset then it will be retried later. You will receive these messages after the issue is fixed.

UPDATE 2:

GiffGaff now says they have a plan in place, and are developing a workaround for voice calls, which should be made clear shortly. Data should be working for most customers, but if you’re having any issues connecting to the web then simply reboot your handset.

UPDATE 3:

Engineers are hard at work fixing the issue, and GiffGaff has just informed us that data should be working for all customers. We’re still waiting on the voice call and sms services to be stabilised.
