The eBook and eReader markets are now well established, with products like Amazon’s Kindle readers taking the world by storm, but there’s been one key aspect missing for many: Digital Harry Potter books.
Despite both the book series and the accompanying films becoming one of the most popular and highest-grossing franchises in the world to date, author J.K. Rowling has held off as far as digital copies are concerned. However, today finally marks the day that Potter goes digital, with all 7 books now available to download on Kindle readers and devices with the Kindle App installed.
Amazon now lists all seven titles in its Kindle webstore, with prices ranging from £4.99 for the original ‘Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone’ up to £6.99 for ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’. This is the first time that Harry Potter books can be downloaded in digital form (legally) onto Kindle and other eReaders, as well as iPads and Android Tablets through the Kindle App.
J.K. Rowling is also selling the digital books through her own website, Pottermore. Priced the same as the Amazon Kindle store, Pottermore offers the books in ePub and MOBI file formats for those who own other eReaders, such as those from Sony and Kobo. As a special promotion, the Pottermore website is offering the entire collection for £38.64 – a saving of 10% on the combined price of all seven books.
“For years our customers have loved reading Harry Potter books in print, and have made them the best-selling print book series on Amazon.com,” said Russ Grandinetti, Vice President of Kindle Content at Amazon.
“We’re excited that Harry Potter fans worldwide are now able to read J.K. Rowling’s fantastic books on their Kindles and free Kindle reading apps.”
We say it’s about time that such a popular book series entered the digital reading era!
