Since its release last month, some users have been reporting issues with the screen of their Sony Xperia S smartphone; namely that there appears to be a yellow-ish tinge.
The flagship smartphone’s gorgeous 4.3-inch LED-backlit LCD display impressed us when ours arrived a few weeks ago, but other users are reporting that white areas of images, games and webpages appear to be more yellow than bright white.
Thankfully Sony has acknowledged the issue and has responded, explaining the problem and offering a decent solution for its customers. Sony clarifies that only a very small batch of phones is affected by the issue, which is a hardware problem that seems to happen when the phone heats up to around 40 degrees.
“Sony Mobile Communications has identified that the display on a limited number of Xperia S smartphones may show a slight yellow tint if exposed to temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius. This is limited to a small number of units and the cause of this has been corrected. Any consumer observing this slight yellow tint on the display of their Xperia S is welcome to contact their local customer service centre and Sony Mobile Communications will resolve this at no cost to the consumer.”
So, if you’re none too happy with the screen on your Xperia S, simply call up Sony to book it in for a repair. As it’s a manufacturing defect the repair will be carried out free of charge, although at this stage we’re not exactly sure what is causing the problem. With this type of issue it could be the screen panel itself, or a glue used somewhere in the manufacturing process.
