Earlier this week, Lenovo announced their latest Ice Cream Sandwich tablet – the IdeaTab S2109.
The new tablet is the same form factor as the original iPad and uses the same display – a 9.7” screen running at 1024 x 768. These are pressed into a unibody shell that’s just 8.9 mm thick, but still finds room for a micro HDMI port, four integrated speakers and a micro SD card slot. The battery life is supposed to be on par with the iPad as well, at ten hours. Not too bad for a 10” tablet.
The exact internals haven’t yet been announced, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see a 1.5 GHz dual core Snapdragon S4 processor, which is used in their similar IdeaTab S2 slate.
We also don’t yet know the price or release date, but we can expect it to be lower than the S2, which comes in at just under $350 and features a (slightly) better display and a rear camera – two things that seem acceptable to sacrifice for a low cost tablet. All in all, colour me ‘cautiously optimistic’.
