It looks as though the as yet unreleased HTC One V won’t be the entry-level device in the range for long, as the codenamed HTC Golf has leaked in the form of a press shot, and it looks to fit the ‘One’ bill rather well.
The Golf leaked previously but only as a picture taken with the phone found it’s way into a tech blogger’s hands – until now we’ve had no idea what the phone looked like and only some unconfirmed rumours that it will be a more basic smartphone.
From the image leaked to tech site Pocketnow it looks like the Golf is a miniature version of HTC’s excellent new flagship phone, the One X. It features the same white unibody, micro-drilled earpiece area and three capacitive touch buttons beneath the screen.
While we’re not entirely sure if the Golf will join the new One range, it looks almost certain to replace the hugely popular Wildfire and Wildfire S phones, as HTC moves to create a new style of smartphone for 2012.
As for the phone’s features, we currently have a list of rumoured specifications to go on, and a few details that we can ascertain from the photo. As with the One X, One S and One V, the Golf looks set to run the latest in Android software – that’s version 4.0 aka Ice Cream Sandwich – along with the company’s latest version of its Sense UI, version 4.0.
The screen looks to be around 3.2-inches, although the rumour mill quotes a 3.5-inch panel with an average resolution of 480 x 320 pixels. The processor is said to be a single core chip clocked at around 800MHz-1GHz, while storage apparently comes in the form of 4GB internally with the option to expand using a Micro SD card, as well as HTC’s complimentary 25GB of cloud storage space thanks to its partnership with Dropbox.
Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0 and GPS are all expected, as they should be, and the camera is said to be a 5-Megapixel shooter, although we have no further information on video recording qualities or the presence of a flash.
With it’s diminutive size and rumoured mid-range specifications, we can almost guarantee that the Golf will be aimed at those on a budget, as the Wildfire and Wildfire S are currently. We’ll have to wait a little while longer to find out exactly when this phone will come to market, though.
