Samsung, ever the tease, has launched a rather cryptic marketing ploy linked to the next Galaxy smartphone, which many expect to become the Galaxy S III or 3.
The Korean tech giant has already invited us to “meet the next Galaxy” on May 3rd, but it has now tweeted a clue which has led us to a website containing a countdown timer. Rather than the timer expiring on May 3rd, the day of the announcement, it will run out in 12 hours (at the time of writing), which will be on Monday, April 23rd.
Samsung tweeted earlier today “Destination: tgeltaayehxnx”. This is of course an anagram of ‘the next galaxy’, but it’s also a website: www.tgeltaayehxnx.com.
The website promises that we can ‘take the next step’ when the countdown ends, but what will the next step be? Surely Samsung won’t leak the product ahead of its own announcement, or will it? We think Samsung will add another cryptic piece of the puzzle to keep us guessing and build hype ahead of the official event next month.
Those clever enough to pick through the source code of Samsung’s new website will find yet another clue: “discover how Samsung is about to challenge the way you view the Galaxy once more.”
For those who haven’t been keeping up, the tech world is hotly anticipating Samsung revealing the Galaxy S III smartphone next month; a superphone to rival HTC’s already out One X and Apple’s yet-to-be-released iPhone 5, or whatever they choose to call it.
According to a recent video where Vietnamese tech site Tihnte got ahold of a test model of the phone, it will feature an 8-megapixel camera, 16GB of internal storage, a 1.4GHz Quad Core processor and will run on Android 4.0, aka Ice Cream Sandwich. However, we’re all still in the dark as to what the phone will look like, as Samsung has cleverly packaged the new hardware in bland and boring dummy cases so as to keep the game under wraps. Many are expecting a super slim with a ceramic casing of some sorts.
Stay tuned tomorrow morning for the end of the countdown, which by our watch should end at 12:07pm GMT.
