Nintendo will be adding another variant of the portable 3DS console to the spectrum of colours already available as the Midnight Purple edition is served up in support of the release of Mario Tennis Open on May 20th in the U.S (and 25th in the U.K)
The latest Nintendo 3DS features the same three-dimension packing handheld hardware as earlier models, with clamshell design and dual-screen touch and stylus interface, d-pad, all the familiar buttons including 3D toggle and (still only) a single thumbstick. A snap of the gaming gadget was leaked this weekend, but official promo shots have since emerged giving us a good look at the only difference of the new Nintendo 3DS, which is the shimmering purple paint job that resembles a moonlit sky – hence Moonlight Purple. Looks good for the new buyer, but nothing new that’s worth upgrading for existing owners.
As for the Mario Tennis Open, which will be available separately, the game brings together sixteen fan favourite heroes and villains from the platform and karting gaming series including Mario himself, brother Luigi, Princess Peach and Bowser in single or multiplayer games on Wi-Fi and the Nintendo Network. Just like Mario Kart item can be acquired to upgrade and improve skills throughout the game.
After being announced at the Tokyo Game Show back in September Mario Tennis Open finally goes on sale at the end of May along with the new Midnight Purple console.
