The Angry Birds theme park as promised back in February has now been officially opened in the game’s country of origin Finland. But rather than being a free range adventure based on the aggravated avian game, Angry Birds Land features 12 paltry rides (or poultry rides?) and it turns out it’s only a minor attraction in the much larger Särkänniemi Theme Park.
Unfortunately, the chance to ride the famous Angry Birds slingshot is not part of the attraction which is circled in the image of the Särkänniemi Theme Park in its entirety, giving us a true view of its scale. But the “virtual playground” does feature some climbing frames, slides and physical and interactive games. Visitors to the park this summer will also get to upgrade their Android and Apple gadgets, this in a special “Magic Place” where mobile gamers can gain exclusive content to the various versions of the popular app game, which were recently joined by the chart-toppling Angry Birds Space.
This official Angry Birds attraction comes as a response to the fake Chinese park which surfaced last year, but we could have hoped for a little more. The addictive games are still capturing our excitement with the latest sci-fi inspired instalment now reaching 50-million downloads in just 35 days and we were kind of hoping for rollercoasters and gravity defying action of the game to be something we can experience in real-life. We’ll save ourselves the £16 theme park entry (and price of flight to Finland) and just wait to hijack the Angry Birds activity parks when they open up and grab the downloadable extras when they inevitably hit the respective app markets!
