Nokia Brings its ‘Nokia Reading’ eBook App to the UK and Europe

Book lovers with a Nokia Lumia smartphone will definitely want to lay their eyes on a new app that’s set to launch in the UK and Europe shortly: Nokia Reading.

Soon to be available to download from the Windows Phone Marketplace as a free app, Nokia Reading will offer a catalogue consisting of thousands of eBooks that can be downloaded to the Nokia Lumia 610, 710, 800 and the just-launched Lumia 900.

Nokia Reading isn’t your average eBook app either, and has plenty of nifty features to suit Lumia users around the world. Once you’ve found the book you want, download it straight to your phone’s internal memory and open it. Nokia Reading knows where you are and as such it’ll automatically display your book in your language.

There are plenty of titles on offer too, ranging from local books to big sellers such as ‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo; One Day’ and The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. Pricing hasn’t been announced per book yet, but it’s expected to range depending on the publisher.

You can have several books on the go at once, easily switching between them from the Library section within the app, and it’ll tell you how much you’ve read with a simple message such as ‘half way through’ or ‘just started reading’.

Reading a book on a smartphone won’t appeal to everyone, and the obvious questions point to the screen size. Nokia uses something called a ‘ClearBack’ screen in its Lumia phones, which helps to eliminate glare and make your screen easy to read. The ClearType technology used by Microsoft in the Windows Phone operating system means that text is clear and crisp too, while Nokia Reading itself allows you to alter the size of the text to make reading even easier.

The worldwide rollout of Nokia Reading is now underway, with the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Russia and Spain first to get the app as of this week. Further countries will be added as the year progresses, as will new features including audiobooks and a worldwide news feed option, which sounds pretty cool.

Are you a bookworm with a Lumia smartphone? Why not try Nokia Reading when it becomes available on the Marketplace and let us know what you think of it!
