Sonos Brings the Bass with New Wireless ‘Sub’

[tab name=’News’]

Wireless home audio experts Sonos have bolstered their existing range with a brand new wireless subwoofer to bring bass to existing Sonos hi-fi systems.

Simply named ‘Sub’, the new woofer from Sonos features an attractive ‘O’ shaped design that sets it apart slightly from the usual white and silver components in the wireless hi-fi range. It’s finished in black lacquer with a snazzy silver trim, and stands at almost double the height of the Play:5, the biggest all-in-one system in the Sonos range.

Sonos’ new addition claims to fill your room with ‘thick layers of deep, bottomless sound,’ but banishes the dreaded vibration. You can crank up the bass with the new Sonos Sub and you won’t get any reverb, feedback or noisy vibration thanks to the design and premium build.

Inside the glossy black case are two force-cancelling speakers which are positioned to face each other – this is one of the key ways to eliminate vibration.

As with all Sonos hi-fi products, the emphasis is placed on simplicity and being cable-free. You’ll only need one cable for the Sub and that’s the power cable. Once you’re plugged in to the mains it’s a case of pressing and holding the pairing button on the sub for a few seconds and then waiting for the prompt to appear on the controller for your Sonos system. From there you follow the instructions to quickly and easily add the Sub into your setup.

Although the Sub stands tall above other Sonos systems, it can actually be led flat thanks to its design – allowing you to slot it into a cabinet, under a sofa or anywhere you want really.

Sub will work with all of the amplified CONNECT and PLAY systems, but it will not work with the non-amplified CONNECT ZP90 and ZP80 models. You’ll be able to get your hands on one when they go on sale on June 19th, costing £599, which we think is pretty reasonable provided the sound quality is up to scratch. A matte black version will be coming along in October for £499, if matte colours and saving money are more your thing.
