Everything Everywhere has announced a new feature called ‘Smart Signal Share’ for Orange and T-Mobile customers across the UK.
When Orange and T-Mobile merged to create the group now known as Everything Everywhere, the ability to share signal with the other network was one of the first advantages.
It’s undoubtedly useful for customers on both networks, but many reported issues with dropped calls and patchy 3G signal when switching over to their non-default network.
The group has dubbed the whole procedure the ‘big switch-on’, and now the final stage has been completed with Smart Signal Share. With this new feature users should experience a seamless transition to the second network when using 3G for browsing, emailing and downloading.
Whereas there has been issues in the past with regaining 3G connectivity if switching networks, Everything Everywhere now promises that customers shouldn’t notice any hiccups at all. Smart Signal Share will work on smartphones, tablets and mobile broadband dongles that use either an Orange or a T-Mobile SIM card.
Olaf Swantee, CEO of Everything Everywhere, said:
“Smart Signal Sharing marks the completion of the Orange and T-Mobile signal integration project, which provides our 27.5million customers with the widest 2G and 3G coverage available in Britain today.”
The group is also planning to increase the speeds of the current 3G standard by up to 50% by introducing HSPA+ speeds. This will help them to stay up with the competition while plans are made to become the UK’s first 4G network, which could well happen later this year if Ofcom approves.
Customers needn’t worry about the introduction of Smart Signal Share – charges remain the same and it’ll work with all existing SIM cards and devices on both networks.
Double the network coverage has got to be good. Let us know if you notice an improvement with either network via our @Gadget_Helpline Twitter page or Official Facebook group.
