A new HTC smartphone has been revealed, although to some it may look mighty familiar.
The Taiwanese manufacturer has just unveiled the new ‘One XL’ smartphone, which is a European phone that unfortunately won’t be coming to the UK.
Despite the name, the XL doesn’t relate to the size of the phone itself – the One X is already big enough! – but rather to the mobile broadband speeds capable of receiving with it.
The One XL looks, on the outside, to be identical to the One X that is available here in the UK and loved by Gadget Helpline. On the inside it has a new 4G LTE radio, which means that in Germany, where 4G is broadcast, the phone will be able to latch on and provide its users with download speeds of up to 70Mbps.
Unfortunately the super-speedy quad-core Tegra 3 processor from Nvidia has to be swapped out for something else in order for the One XL to use 4G LTE. Nvidia’s chip famously doesn’t support 4G connectivity, so HTC has opted for the next best thing: the dual-core Snapdragon S4 from Qualcomm, which runs at a very respectable 1.5GHz.
Other than the processor switch and the addition of 4G LTE connectivity, the One XL is nigh on identical to its UK sibling, the One X. It runs Android 4.0 along with HTC’s Sense 4.0 user interface, features the beautiful 4.7-inch Super LCD HD display, 8-megapixel rear camera and Beats Audio technology.
The HTC One XL will be available in Germany from the end of June, priced at £525 SIM-Free. Prices should be very similar to that of the One X on contract, although no network has yet confirmed prices. HTC says it’s unclear at the moment if the phone will come to the UK, although with there being no 4G network here, it seems very unlikely.
