Those hoping to hop on board with the latest operating system from Microsoft will be very glad to hear that upgrading won’t leave a nasty dent in your wallet.
Unlike previously with new versions of Windows, Microsoft will be offering upgrades to Windows 8 from as little as £10.
With Windows 8 launching later this year, Microsoft has announced that customers who buy a new PC with Windows 7 pre-loaded from June 2nd will be entitled to a cheap upgrade.
“Beginning June 2, 2012, Microsoft will roll out the Windows Upgrade Offer in 131 markets, including the U.S. and Canada.” Microsoft confirmed in a statement.
“Consumers who buy eligible Windows 7-based PCs through Jan. 31, 2013, can purchase an upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for an estimated retail price of $14.99 (U.S.) during the time of the promotion.”
The Redmond software giant has just unleashed the latest consumer preview version of Windows 8, which is closer again to the finished product. The company says that this software contains all of the main features found in Windows 8, although the colour schemes and themes are not final.
The consumer preview is available right now as a free download for those who want to give the new software a try. It will replace your current OS though, so you may want to split your hard drive to have both your current OS and Windows 8 at the same time. We’ve currently got it running on a Medion All-in-One touchscreen PC and we have to say – it’s pretty neat and very easy to use after a few minutes of getting used to it.
Will you be upgrading to Windows 8? What do you think of the new upgrade price?
