Images of Google Nexus 7 Tablet Leak Online

[tab name=’News’]

The rumour of Google launching a Nexus tablet device for the first time is now starting to snowball out of control. We’ve had many leaks before surrounding the manufacturer of the device and the specifications, but no pictures – until now.

PhoneArena got their hands on not one, but two supposed images of the Google Nexus 7 tablet, showing both the front and the back. The images aren’t of the device in the flesh, rather just pictures taken of a digital render or press image shown on a PC screen.

However, the images do add further suggestion that Google has teamed up with ASUS to make its first ever Nexus tablet, as we can see on the back of the pictured tablet. From the back, the tablet appears to be split into two materials – the majority is glossy white, while the top third or so is finished in black. We’re not sure of the reason for this divide, but one idea is that the black area is a soft-touch rubber to add grip.

We also have an image depicting the front of the device, which to us looks like a giant smartphone – much like the Samsung Galaxy Note, but without the buttons below the screen. It’s finished in a glossy white with a large screen (supposedly 7-inches) and a centralised earpiece above the screen, flanked by a front facing camera and two sensors.

To us it seems strange that a company would purposely make a tablet look like a smartphone, and generally it would make more sense to have two stereo speakers located either side of the screen. It makes us suspicious, but at the same time it still looks like a very nice, premium gadget.

Rumours have already suggested that Google’s Nexus 7 will run a powerful Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core processor along with a brand new version of Android – 4.1 aka Jelly Bean.

We’re not completely sold on this leak, although it does look like a very nice device. If it’s not the real deal, Google should look at hiring the designer who mocked up these images!
