With HTC receiving a recent snub by Microsoft on Windows tablets it looks as though Korean co. LG has also dropped out of the race for slates with a spokesperson today revealing the company will be focusing entirely on smartphones such as the LG Optimus 4X HD which recently impressed on its arrival in Europe.
The tablet market will explode later this year, with Microsoft this week announcing its very own Surface Pro range and Windows 8 arrives in October on third party hardware as the latest revision to Microsoft’s operating software comes optimised for a dual-function on both desktop personal computers and laptops as well as tablets for the first time. Waiting in the wings is Google’s offering – a Nexus tablet in partnership with ASUS featuring its hugely popular and widely distributed Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich mobile platform which also serves as a double agent on both smartphones and tablets. And of course there’s the recently launched “new” iPad which is still proving popular and carrying that fruity and ever persuasive symbol.
LG has dabbled with their own slabs in the recent past with the Android 3.0 Honeycomb-packing Optimus Pad which was launched earlier last year with the unique addition of 3D – a gimmick LG looked to conquer in the past twelve months – but it has chosen to decline this next fight for tablet supremacy and in a statement from the Koreans it’s said that “all new tablet development on the back burner for the time being in order to focus on smartphones”.
