Google Maps has stepped it up again – and stepped indoors – for its latest update to the location and direction app on Android devices in the United Kingdom.
Available now on smartphones and tablets packing Android 2.2 Froyo and above, Google Maps 6.0 delivers the usual street based directions for drivers, public transport users and walkers on roads and walkways (river and canal side toll paths coming soon) and a number of indoor spots including shopping centres and airports have been added to the handy pocket atlas. The new addition works by zooming in on a specific building from the currently available line-up of forty locations and this will provide user will a floor plan of the inside of the place of interest.
This useful addition has already been available in the States for a while now and has finally found its way here. The update is available now and is ideal for finding your platform at King’s Cross station or locating a certain exhibit in the British Museum in London (Sorry iPhone owners!)
The indoor coverage also extends to entertainment venues such as the O2 Arena and Wembley Stadium and the full list of available indoors maps available can be found on the Google Maps support page – Here.
