A Tweet has revealed that the American-born Kickstarter website will be opened up to users in the U.K this autumn – giving entrepreneurs on this side of the pond a chance to pitch their projects to the online public – or “Backers” – grab their interest and gain crucial funding to get their plans off the ground.
The official Twitter account of the online ideas hub reported “People in the UK will be able to launch projects on Kickstarter starting this autumn! More info soon! <3 <3 <3” The website would previously only allow those in living in countries outside of the service’s motherland to submit a project if one of the creative minds behind the idea was a resident of the United States. The arrival of Kickstarter in the U.K will mean inventors over the age of 18 can apply to have their project listed and gain financial assistance through donations made by page visitors and via an Amazon-backed pay service.
Kickstarter was started in the States in 2008 and began the trend of “Crowdfunding”. It already hosts over 62,000 projects in 13 categories and 36 subcategories and range from tech gadgets to independent films and comic books and was recently used to launch the Brydge keyboard for Apple iPad and bring back classic gaming hero Leisure Suit Larry!
