The Xperia S’s time at the top may be coming to an end, as pictures of a new flagship smartphone from Sony have appeared online. Say hello to Hayabusa.
Images sent to Xperia Blog depict a phone with the model number LT29i and the codename ‘Hayabusa’. It’s a phone we’ve heard about before, but it was thought that the phone was an exclusive model for Japan only. That turned out to be the Xperia GX which is indeed Japan-bound, but now the Hayabusa has appeared again, without any network branding.
This tells us that the Hayabusa is in fact a worldwide version of the Xperia GX, ready to take on the Galaxy SIII and other top end smartphones. It’s expected to feature the same impressive specs as the GX, including a 4.6-inch 720p HD display, 1.5GHz dual-core processor, and an incredible 13-megapixel rear camera with HDR functionality and 1080p Full HD video capture at 30fps.
The Xperia GX, which is an exclusive on the NTT Docomo network in Japan, also packs in 1GB of RAM and 16GB of onboard storage.
What we particularly love about this phone is its looks. On the front it looks like the new Xperia NXT series, with the three touch buttons now moved on to the screen. Flip it over however, and it bears a striking resemblance to the older Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc and Arc S models, with a slim profile and curved back. It’s got the micro USB port and a dedicated camera button along one edge, the latter being something most new smartphones are lacking.
Unfortunately we’re still none the wiser as to when this phone will launch worldwide, but hopefully it won’t be too long before it lands in our hands. As for an official name, we’re going with Xperia SL or Xperia XS!
