It’s looking like Sony is prepping a few big handsets for release at the end of August at this year’s IFA (or International Radio Exhibition Berlin) in Berlin, with images and specs of the Sony LT30p, aka the Mint, leaking online today.
Mobile-Review has got its hands on an early version of the Sony Mint and has posted a host of pictures and specifications for us all to gawp at. The handset itself will feature a 4.3-inch screen with a 720p resolution, a 1.5Ghz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, microSD card slot, microUSB capable of MHL output, micro SIM slot, NFC, and a sealed internal battery. Plus on the back will be a whopping 13-megapixel camera with LED Flash which will be capable of 1080p video recording.
The handset is running off the current Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0 operating system but with 5 weeks between the IFA and now this could change to the latest Android Jelly Bean 4.1 software upgrade. The specs of the handset can certainly handle Jelly Bean’s processing needs so we would expect a quick upgrade.
Sony has been riding high off its current Xperia range of handsets and there is currently no word on if the Sony LT30p will be branded under the Xperia range with the rest of the Android line. You can also expect Sony to be incorporating its own UI.
The pictures also show a slight move away from the standard smartphone button layout, with the Sony Mint placing its power button, volume rocker, and camera shutter button the bottom right hand side of the smartphone along with onscreen navigation keys instead of physical control buttons.
Hopefully Sony will be releasing more details on the handset before IFA but we can be pretty much assured to see it that the Berlin event in August.
