Mark it in your calendar, Apple fans. September 21st has been quoted as being the release date for the iPhone 5, or ‘next generation iPhone’, for the second time.
What’s more, September 12th is said to be the date Apple will reveal the new phone to the world. Sources familiar with the matter quoted both dates, the first of which has been confirmed before by a Chinese iPhone accessory maker earlier this month.
So that’s two marks for the September 21st release date, but the September 12th unveiling is the first we’ve heard. iMore confirmed the dates in a recent blog post, stating;
“iMore has heard that Apple is planning to debut the new iPhone at a special event on Wednesday, September 12, 2012, with the release date to follow 9 days later on Friday, September 21. This information comes from sources who have proven accurate in the past,”
If proven true, the dates show that Apple is planning to launch the new iPhone earlier than it did last year, when it announced the iPhone 4S on October 4th. The year before that the Cupertino Company launched the iPhone 4 in June, so it seems they’re not especially keen on sticking to a strict annual release schedule.
Two of Apple’s other highly rumoured products are said to be joining the iPhone 5 on September 12th according to iMore – the iPad Mini and the 7th generation iPod Nano. Unfortunately the site doesn’t have any release information for both products, although we’d imagine both will launch within two weeks of the announcements.
Microsoft’s Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 are both launching in October, and although we’re sure Apple would love to steal its rival’s limelight, perhaps it’s brought its own new products forwards to avoid a clash.
With two separate, independent sources now confirming the same launch date for the iPhone, there’s starting to be a little too much smoke for there not to be a fire.
