Google has again released its latest Android distribution figures showing which of the Google Android OS’s are running on handsets across the globe, and this time there is a huge increase in ICS coverage and Jelly Bean has appeared.
This time last month when Google announced its usage levels, Ice Cream Sandwich was still only in used on 10% of all handsets, despite being the current market norm. 30 days later however, it seems ICS is doing a little better with 15.9 percent of all Android devices running the OS.
Gingerbread is still the big version on the block with a huge 60 percent of the Android market, still being on the older OS and now Froyo is in at a close third, at 15.5 percent, behind ICS.
For the first time Google’s latest 4.1 Jelly Bean OS version is now on the list after its release last month. Jelly Bean is coming in with a small debut of 0.8 percent, but considering that the update is only available for a handful of devices in very few countries, it’s not that bad. What we will expect is that next month JB will be flying a bit higher after it is released across more devices.
Version 2.1 Eclair comes in with still a reasonable 4.2% and the tablet-only Honeycomb versions 3.1/3.2 come in at 2.3% of all devices (and can expect to drop considerably with Jelly Bean being tablet friendly).
The stats are all compiled by devices that have logged onto the Google Play Store in the last few months.
