GSM Arena has been sent an image of a mysterious white Samsung phone that is claimed to be the Galaxy Note 2.
The image bears a striking resemblance to the Marble White Galaxy SIII, leading us to give it a darn good looking over for signs of a Photoshop job – we still can’t decide. Several rumours have said that Samsung would be taking a leaf from the S3’s design book for the second generation Note, but we didn’t expect it to be this similar.
From what we can tell, the front face of the phone looks near identical to the S3, spare a few small details. The home button has been ever-so-slightly reshaped, with a more pointed bottom edge, although it’s flanked by the same illuminated back and menu touch buttons.
Above the screen we can see the same silver Samsung logo and earpiece, along with two sensors and a front-facing camera. If this proves to be the real deal, it looks as though Samsung has altered the layout above the screen, presumably to help fit the much larger 5.5-inch display into a smaller frame. When compared to the S3, the two sensors have been moved to the left of the earpiece, while the front-facing camera remains on the right.
Finally, there appears to be two sets of buttons on the left and right of the device, but strangely both are similar in size. Samsung’s power button is usually around half the size of its volume rocker, but in this image they both look the same size. This makes us rather suspicious of its authenticity, although everything else seems to look pretty good.
GSM Arena’s tipster also sent along some specifications with the picture, which seem to fit the bill with the rumours we’ve heard: a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1280 x 800, a 1.5GHz quad-core Exynos processor, the same 8-Megapixel camera as the Galaxy SIII and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
Samsung will be announcing the Galaxy Note II at a Mobile Unpacked press conference on August 29th.
